On Jan. 6th DASF gathered at Ame - a fusion sort of restaurant in the St. Regis hotel at 3rd and Mission. It was another lively evening with good friends, good conversation, and interesting food. In attendance: The Klinkees - with both Avis and John making it out; Phu & Winnie - passing up mediocre steaks at the Old SteakHouse to dine with DASF instead; Mollie and post-call but just drank a gallon of coffee so I'm bright-eyed and ready to enjoy Jon; and our out-of-town, first timer, special guest - Walden!!
And the ratings are:
Atmosphere - 92
Food - 85
Service - 60
Appetizers were too small to share, with Avis trying to cut bits of tuna small enough to go around. Watermelon Radish stuffed with some kind of fish was delicious and fresh, but Tuna Five and the Japanese Custard failed to impress.
Main dishes were delectable - wonderful Black Cod, tender beef, fresh salmon, and very good risotto (Avis thought too Salty, but not as salty as the Risotto we sent back at Cafe Kate, so things are improving.)
Dessert was good with tasty key lime pie, but average pear crisp and chocolate cake.
Atmosphere was very cozy - has a modern feel, very high ceilings paired with nice dividers made the area feel spacious, but also cozy. We were able to hear each other and spread out a bit.
Service was severely lacking. Waiters didn't know the menu, forgot John's beers, didn't bring dessert plates - all such rookie mistakes we couldn't hardly give more than a 60 rating.
Most of us said we wouldn't return - not enough value and service really off the mark.
And there you have it - another installment of Dine About!! Always a good time. . . Join us in February!

Jon on the John:
Yes, my monthly article on the bottom side of fine-dining returns for another exiting read to entertain the bloggers....the bathroom at Ame!
Truth is, Ame doesn't officially have a bathroom. Anybody with an urge for micturition is directed to the lobby bathroom of the St. Regis (or was it the St. Francis?), down the hall and left at the stairs.
But the experience doesn't leave you lacking. Upon entry, you are greeted with meticulously clean, solid-white floor-to-ceiling marble tiles in a very well ventilated, refreshing room. The stalls are ultra-private. No paper towels to be found here; freshly laundered hand-towels are available for use. And the sink and mirror are spotless....no doubt from a frequent housekeeping schedule (perhaps hourly?)
Very impressive. My score: 94
